Robert Dean is a documentary producer, director, and writer based in Los Angeles.
For the past 15 years (2008-2023) he worked for NBC News, creating both long-form programming (one to two hours) and specials for prime time, in addition to a variety of news segments for the various NBC platforms. He has also produced and directed over 40 episodes of the NBC News magazine show Dateline featuring stories about the criminal justice system. For each two-hour episode, he was responsible for finding and developing stories, conceptualizing show structure, booking interviews, directing shoots, scripting, and supervising the editing.
Prior to NBC News, Dean owned and operated Vantage Point Productions, a documentary film production company based in Los Angeles, where he was executive producer on dozens of shows airing on the various Discovery Networks, The History Channel, HGTV, Tru TV and Tribune Broadcasting.
Before Vantage Point Productions, Dean also wrote, produced, and directed a variety of shows for public television (PBS), including an episode of NOVA that was nominated for a national Emmy award.
Dean is also the recipient of seven local LA Emmy Awards and a Cine Golden Eagle for his work.
He is a graduate of Stanford University with a degree in journalism and urban studies.
